Spotlight: Camden Restroom Door Control Kits

On January 19th, we hosted our very first Aartech Spotlight Camden Webinar, focused on the Camden Restroom kits, their components and how it pertains to the Building codes.

Restroom kits are essential in creating accessible universal restrooms, mandated in the Ontario Building Code and these codes are likely to be replicated across the country.

Restroom Control Systems 

A restroom control system functions to open doors. Some will use light-up buttons or push plates; others may feature text annunciation or illuminated colours to communicate the door's status. The essential components that make up the system are typically:

• Low energy swing door operators
• Door control relay that interconnects the door operator, activation switches, electric locks and annunciation
• Door activation switches, including push plate or hands-free switches outside and inside the restroom
• Magnetic door contact that monitors the door status
• Push to lock switch that is usually a push plate switch or mushroom push button
• Electric strike or magnetic lock for fail-safe and fail secure. 

You can enhance the door control as needed with a variety of annunciations. These visually communicate the restroom status and can be coloured or illuminated.
