DSC Powerseries Phasing Out EOL

Written by Robert Mowles Thursday, September 22, 2022 Posted in General

The DSC Powerseries alarm panel has been the staple of many an alarm installer over the years.  It's solid, inexpensive and generally expandable if a little daunting to program at times.  Anyone familiar with DSC will recognize the good ol' PC1616, PC1832, PC1864 series.

It seems all good things must come to an end, as the traditional Powerseries is end end of life.  We've seen bits and pieces disappearing, such as RFK keypads.  According to DSC sources, the inability to source key components is forcing the end of this line.  Most likely it will disappear in the next 4-6 months.

In the short term, we're doing our best to maintain stock of PC1616 and PC1832 panels, keypads, 433 MHZ sensors and  accessories.  We also carry a range of 433 MHZ compatible sensors, many of which offer longer warranty and longer battery life than the original DSC brand.

The new generation called Neo will be taking it's place with traditional wired panels in metal enclosures.  Neo panels now use PowerG wireless devices instead of their traditional 433 MHZ.   PowerG is known for exceptional long range but price points are higher than the older generation of product, as is the theme of 2022.

As another option, those looking for a more all-in-one type system can check out Qolsys IQ panels.  Qolsys systems feature built-in touch screens, communicators, wireless receivers, and some panels include glass break and cameras.

If you're a DSC installer looking for guidance during the transition, reach out and we'd be pleased to assist with additional information or to arrange training.
