Lutron Shades Collection Guide

Lutron shades can take a smart home to the next level of convenience, comfort, and control. The shades help create the perfect comfort zone your customer craves while allowing for near-effortless control and maintenance. They can reduce light, add ambiance, increase privacy, minimize glare and more, all while being controlled via the Lutron app, Lutron system, or voice control. 

Similarly, the shades also enhance decor - with such a wide breadth of colours, fabrics, designs and more, there's bound to be something for everyone. 

Lutron offers many different shades systems, as well as many different types of shades. This guide will walk you through Lutron's most common shades systems and the three types of shades offered.

Triathlon System

The fashionable, flexible, and reliable Triathlon automated shading system is the versatile battery-powered* shades solution for almost any Lutron smart home system. 

The shades are easy to install and have a battery life of 3-5 years. The headrail conveniently tips forward to grant access to the battery, meaning the blinds don't need to be removed to switch the battery.

With plenty of options, the shades can fit any home's needs and aesthetic. They are available as roller, or insulating honeycomb and come in a variety of fabric colours and textures.

The Triathlon line implements IHA (Intelligent Hembar Alignment) to ensure all shades will move and stop within 1/8 of an inch of each other. The maximum of the blinds is 144 inches, ensuring it works for diverse applications.

Given Lutron's mastery of home automation, the blinds are able to work alone or as part of a larger system and can seamlessly integrate with any of Lutron's current lines. They can conveniently be controlled via a remote or the Lutron mobile app. 

  • The Caseta system works with Honeycomb shades and roller shades
  • The RA2 Select collection works with honeycomb shades and roller shades
  • The RadioRA 2 line works with honeycomb shades and roller shades
  • The HomeWorks system works with honeycomb shades

*The blinds can be wired for power as well

 

Comparison 

Lutron also offers their Serena line of Shades, and while they work for smaller scale proejcts, Triathlon is generally the go-to choice for installers. 

Triathlon vs. Shades

  • The Triathlon line implements HIA(Intelligent Hembar Alignment) to ensure all shades will move and stop within 1/8 of an inch of each other. This patented technology is not included in the Serena Line.
  • The Fabric Options are more extensive for Triathlon compared to the Serena line. 
  • Serena Shades only work with Caseta, while Triathlon works will all Lutron Systems.

 

Types of Shades

Roller Shades

With Lutron roller shades, functionality meets aesthetic. With a variety of customization and colours, the shades can fit into almost any home's design. 

Roller shades are available in three different opacities - sheer, translucent, and blackout. Different top treatment options include architectural fascia, fabric wrapped fascia, exposed headrail, and exposed WIDR headrail.

Roller Shade Features

  • The shades are available as wide as 144" and as tall as 144"
  • The WIDR headrail is designed to accommodate the larger sized shades
  • Powered by store-bought D-cell batteries or plug-in to outlet
  • Battery boost is available to extend battery life up to 6 years

Insulating Honeycomb Shades

The insulating honeycomb style is a fashionable and practical choice. The honeycomb design allows users to save energy by offering insulation. 

This style is available with different light transmittance options to work with any room: 

  • Light filtering single cell to allow daylight through the shade, but limits outside view
  • Light filtering double cell that creates a soft, filtered glow and saves more energy than the single cell 
  • Room darkening utilizes a fabric with a darkening lining to eliminate light and block views outside.

  • Available up to 96" tall
  • Uses store-bought batteries
  • Available as plug-in powered
  • Colour matched headrails can be exposed or paired with top treatment 
  • Works with Lutron App, Pico remotes, keypads, or voice assistants
